Air Canada employees, get ready for Mr. Harper

Well its that time again!

Mr. Harper, Prime Minister of Canada wants to show everyone in the country what he thinks about employees having bargaining rights with a union: he does not like it.

Mr. Harper is looking at the possibility to create a bill to force Air Canada employees to go back to work without having a fair contract, meaning employees able to go on strike until a contract deal is agreed with Air Canada management and the union members (employees).

If you were not aware of what Mr. Harper did in the past let me get you up to speed. A few months ago Canada Post employees with the union could not agree to a contract with the management, so instead of getting a personnel from the Ministry of Labour involved to try to assist both sides to finalized a acceptable contract on both sides, yours truly, Mr. Harper force the employees to go back to work, and if not they would issue them a $1000 per day fine, per employee!

Now our Prime Minister is looking at the possibility in enforcing a bill that would force Air Canada employees to go back to work. At this stage it has not happen, but if they do decide to go on strike chances are great this could happen with the possibility of a daily fine, maybe $1000 per day.

Mr. Harper is destroying the fundamental rights on employees belonging to a collective bargaining unit (the union).  By doing so he is indirectly telling employers; “if the employees don’t agree to your contract, Mr. employer and they go on strike, we will force them back to work, so pay them whatever you want, cut their benefits etc…”

What kind or Prime Minister is he !? You tell me.

This morning while I was driving back home form work I heard one of the talk host on a radio station in Ottawa complaining how these employees cry and complain. I wonder how much he gets paid to be a talk host on a “caught: rock station”

What some Canadians may not understand is that Unions are the ones that gave workers FAIR WAGES. How many companies out there pay fair wages now a days? How much do you get paid at your job?

Did you notice in today’s world since unions are disappearing more and more companies are paying employees less and less to a point where more families are going to food banks and are living pay cheque to pay cheque?

Did you know that it is because of unions safety regulations are now required for certain jobs such as construction and welding for example; that they were implemented in collective agreements and then with the years the government decided to implement them has standard job regulations?

It is normal though that small businesses out there can`t pay what big companies pay and that due to smaller revenues that they get. This is more focused on the big companies that have a larger spreadsheet in revenues of course.

So before complaining about unions and employees, look at your pay cheque. How much did you get paid in your non unionized work place for the hard work you did? Maybe you got fired recently for unjust cause. Who is protecting you for this unjust cause. What? No one?

With a government like Harper and to no policy toward fair collective bargaining, don’t expect your pay cheque to get bigger; in the contrary expect smaller ones.

Until next time,

Antonio
