How to protect your computers from hackers
The biggest issue now with everyone connected to the Internet is being hacked and getting their personal information stolen. In this article I will explain the basics on how to protect your PC from hackers on the web
The first thing you should have is a firewall. Now if you have windows xp, vista or 7, then you already have a built in firewall on your PC and by default it is on, unless you have deactivated it, and you should not! A firewall in short, simply allows certain ports to have access to the Internet connection. Just imagine your house. Chances are it has two doors and some windows. By default you would enter by one of your doors. But without a firewall is like having your house doors open and all your windows open as well, allowing intruders into your home easily. A firewall would lock all your windows and doors and if someone would want to enter a system or security guard you ask you if it is ok for this person to enter.
The second is an anti-virus application. What the purpose of this is in short, is to delete or cure any infected files. If you download many files using a peer to peer app to donwload illegal mp3′s for exmaple, you could be downloading several viruses. Another exmaple with be downloading emails and opening the file attachment, which is classic and easy way for hackers to infect, destroy or worse steal personal information from your pc.
By having these two applications you will have a safer Internet experience on the web.
